Munchkin

Size: Small
Age: Baby
Gender: Female

Munchie is barely a year old, but what a hard life she has had. She seems to have very likely been taken from her mother at too young an age, for her socialization is woefully inadequate. She did not like and does not like being held or picked up. She was bought by someone who did not know much about dogs, especially those with special problems, so poor Munchie spent most of her day and night in a tiny little crate, without room to turn around in. Food was put in, and she was taken out for her bodily functions, but that was about all the attention she ever got. So she became more and more antisocial. She squeals and tries to bite when picked up. In addition, when she was brought to us she was still confined to the tiny crate, but was covered with feces, and the flies had already gotten to her. Not a very pretty sight. We cleaned up her, and she spent a couple of days in the hospital, but it saved her life...she would have been dead in a short while. Now she has a lot of freedom, a lot of space, and a lot of attention. She's not sure she wants the attention, but her appetite is ferocious and she is gradually letting us pet her, and letting us pick her up without as many protests as in the past. She is a very difficult but a very beautiful dog, and, for someone with a penchant for saving the wayward, she just might make the right project. We see great but gradual improvement, but what a past she has to live down or forget. She was probably crate trained and well on the way to being housetrained, in spite of the neglect and mistreatment.
