         Inspiration and Love
Hear our humble prayer, O God,
for our friends the animals,
especially for animals who are suffering;
for animals that are overworked,
underfed and cruelly treated;
for all wistful creatures in captivity
that beat their wings against bars;
for any that are hunted or lost or deserted
or frightened or hungry;
for all that must be put death.
We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity,
and for those who deal with them
we ask a heart of compassion
and gentle hands and kindly words.
Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals,
and so to share the blessings of the merciful.
Author - Albert Schweitzer

A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than you love yourself. ~Josh Billings

To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring - it was peace. ~Milan Kundera

You think dogs will not be in heaven? I tell you, they will be there long before any of us. ~Robert Louis Stevenson

You ask of my companions. Hills, sir, and the sundown, and a dog as large as myself that my father bought me. They are better than human beings, because they know but do not tell. ~Emily Dickinson

There is no faith which has never yet been broken, except that of a truly faithful dog. ~Konrad Lorenz

Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal ever made. ~Roger Caras

I very much believe in rescuing animals, not buying them.~Candice , on finding her dog, Lois, a terrier/basset hound mix

The more one gets to know of men, the more one values dogs. ~Alphonse Toussenel

She had no particular breed in mind, no unusual requirements. Except the special sense of mutual recognition that tells dog and human they have both come to the right place. ~Lloyd Alexander

I went to the Pet Store on dog adoption day.
I didn’t want an old dog because it wouldn’t stay -
Long enough on this earth for me to love for long
And I couldn’t take another death – I’m really not that strong.

There on the floor in the bottom crate was an old and weathered friend.
He looked as though he had been around many a corner and bend.
I asked the woman how old he was and where he had been found -
The volunteer said to me he was about a dozen years and
I noticed as she told me this she shed a few soft tears.
His owner had passed away so very suddenly and
No one else wanted the boy and he had no place to stay.

Poor old Joe loved to walk and lay in the warm, inviting sun
He loved dog treats and belly rubs and cuddling when the day was done.

I closed my eyes and braced myself because I knew what I was about to say
I asked what the donation would be and if Joe could come home with me.

The woman smiled and a tear ran down her face again
She said ‘bless you’ and that I had restored her faith in man.
I took my dog, my beautiful Joe home to be safe with me
Life is for now, care for him now and that pure love has let me see.
